The Apostille Convention entered into force for the Philippines on 14th May 2019. Philippine Presidente Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the Instrument of the Accession to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Documents (Apostille Convention) on 03 April 2018. The Philippines deposited the Instrument of its Accession to abovementioned Convention to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Netherlands on 12 September 2018.

Given this, after completion of the authentication procedure by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, there is no longer a need for authentication / legalization by the concerned Foreign Embassies / Consulates if the country of destination of the authenticated document is already a member of the Apostille Convention.

Moreover, documents executed and Apostillized in Apostille countries, except for Austria, Finland, Germany and Greece, shall no longer be authenticated by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate.
